– The culex mosquito: it particularly bites at night, this category of mosquito lays its eggs on the surface of contaminated water and transmits diseases such as West Nile virus and encephalitis. In adults, the thorax, legs and veins on the wings are covered with brown scales.

– Anopheles Mosquito: here, adults are characterized by pale and dark markings on the wings, the female lays her eggs on the surface of waters with vegetation such as marshes and swamps. Anopheles mosquitoes are known to cause malaria.

– The tiger mosquito: physically, the tiger mosquito has a white longitudinal line in the center of its black thorax, its larva develops in stagnant water. This category of mosquito is known to be the cause of diseases such as Chikungunya and the zika virus.

– Aedes mosquito: this type of mosquito bites when the light intensity changes, i.e. before and after sunset. Its eggs are black in color and shaped like a rugby ball. The adult aedes mosquito is characterized by white and black marks all along the body, it carries and transmits the zika virus.

Mosquitoes: A Health Risk

Mosquitoes are among the most dangerous insects because of the number of deaths they cause each year, their ability to carry and transmit diseases is extremely high. Mosquitoes carry serious diseases such as:

– Malaria: also called malaria, it is one of the main causes of human mortality in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 219 million cases of malaria were recorded in 2017 worldwide. There are four types of malaria vector agent namely: plasmodium falciparum, plasmodium ovax, plasmodium vivax and plasmodium malariae. – Yellow fever: the disease is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito and occurs in many countries in Africa and South America. Vaccination is essential to protect against this disease although the number of authorized centers is limited.

– West Nile fever: its transmission is by the culex species, the elderly are more likely to develop a severe form of the disease leading in some cases to death.

– Chikungunya: it is manifested by high fever, headaches, muscle and joint pain, these pains can last for weeks or even months.

– Burning spirals: their effectiveness is reduced to a few meters around the spiral and it is advisable to use them outdoors for safety reasons.
